The mortal lineage, the fourth of the bloodlines, is also known as the children of Set. Despite being the most numerous on the face of the earth, they are also the most fragile and vulnerable. Most humans are unaware of the truth about the three immortal bloodlines with which they share this world, as they are rarely considered "equals" by the shadows and darkness.

However, all mortals hold a connection to the light, as the enlightened, the first bloodline, only awaken in them at specific moments. These mortals are capable of training their minds and bodies to master the light and control certain manifestations of darkness.

Some enlightened beings have taken on the task of protecting mortals. The most recent of these guardians, whose story has been recorded, is the Maxima of the church, who, in the company of the Ancient of Shadows, established the Treaty of the Alliance. This pact sought to present a united front against the darkness, forging a bond between mortals and immortals in the struggle to preserve order in a world increasingly threatened by the infernal.
